Welcome
At Oceans Counselling, I help people with complex histories deeply understand their own experience, uncovering their natural propensity to heal. Many of the people I work with arrive feeling overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, or carrying experiences that still feel close to the surface. If that’s true for you, please know you are not alone, and there is nothing “wrong” with you for struggling. Addiction and trauma are not signs of weakness; they are often ways the nervous system has tried to cope, survive, and protect. Many people have internal conflicts stopping them from moving forward as if they are being pulled in multiple directions. Through intentional therapeutic conversation, I can help resolve some of that tension so you can make the changes you want. This can lead you to a happier more fulfilling life. Painful life experiences can be powerful motivators to try counselling. Things can get better with support. Oceans Counselling helps people improve their quality of life and realize their potential.

All About Me
I have over a decade of experience supporting individuals with issues relating to addiction and mental health conditions. The common denominator has been childhood trauma. Trauma simply means an event or events that were too much to cope with at the time. They become fractured and stuck in your nervous system. Childhood trauma can simply be that your emotional needs were not met consistently when you were young. Trauma is much more common than people think! Research supports that these early life experiences have far-reaching consequences on a person’s health. At the same time, it can be a huge relief to realize that the issues you are dealing with are not your fault, and can be addressed.

Working with Addictions and Trauma

I define addiction broadly, not limited to a particular substance or behaviour. It can be anything that you consistently rely on to avoid your feelings or inner experience. I am a certified Complex Trauma Coach and Facilitator, and offer a unique perspective, bringing my own life experience as well as my academic training to helping people. I guide people to uncover underlying issues contributing to their behaviour, such as shame, grief, and codependency. You can learn to identify and validate your needs, a skill not always taught growing up. My approach will help you resolve indecision and examine negative beliefs that are keeping you stuck.
Working with Couples

In therapy, I create a non-judgmental and healing space for clients to realize deep change. The therapeutic space can help couples take responsibility for unhelpful relationship dynamics and work towards healthier behaviours while experiencing more openness. This approach can help couples improve communication, de-escalate arguments and deepen intimacy. I am experienced working with conflicting attachment styles. I work from the lens of Relational Life Therapy (RLT) and IFS.

Background

I have a Master's of Counselling (MC) from City University, with a Bachelor of Psychology from Douglas College. I have always been interested in personal development and not being limited by one’s circumstances but rather finding ways to overcome those influences. I am naturally competitive, with a background in competitive swimming. Living a healthy life both physically and mentally is very important to me.
I want my clients to see results. That said, navigating trauma is complex, and the progress is not linear. It takes a great deal of courage to face your fears, and you will come out stronger on the other side. Recovery is not just about reducing symptoms, but also about building a life worth living. I aim to empower clients to live a life within their unique values. I have strong family and community values, a strong belief in justice, and an awareness of my societal privilege.

I have learned the importance of serenity in life, and find this in nature. I find its beauty inspires creative expression. My free time is split between outdoor activities such as cycling and hiking, and indoor hobbies such as drawing, painting, and tattooing. I love animals of all kinds and enjoy spending time with my dog and sphynx cat.
